My experience with SYA rescue was wonderful. When I called and spoke with Ann, I told her what I was looking for - a companion for my young Haflinger as I'd just lost my very old gelding and my Haflinger was lonely. Lucky for me, Ann had a mule that would suit my needs. I drove almost 2 hours to see Henry and he was everything Ann said and more. Henry is so sweet, gentle and trusting. After having him home and working with him for a few weeks, I can lead him anywhere, over anything and he'll following right along. After working with Henry, I decided he's so much more than a companion for my Haflinger, he's my companion as well. I now take Henry on weekly hikes and I have plans to order a small pack for him so he can carry my lunch and some treats for himself.
If it weren't for the wonderful people at SYA, I would not have met Henry. The work they do to help all long ears is incredible and my family and I are so grateful that they allowed us to adopt Henry and make him a part of our family.
June 2010 Update!
Henry is just wonderful and we are so happy to have him. I can't say enough good things about him. Everyday when I go to the barn , he's the first one at the fence begging me to take him out and work with him. He's doing very well with his trick training and can now bow and step up on a platform. I've also begun pack training him and he loves going out in the woods and exploring. Henry is so very gentle, kind and trusting and we can't imagine our lives without him. Thanks for all you do and a special thanks for rescuing our Henry.
I'm so happy to see so many animals getting adopted. You really make a difference.
I took this picture with my camera phone from a distance which is why the quality isn't that great but this picture represents a typical day in the life Henry and Mikey. The feed tub is their favorite toy and each one takes turns either whacking the other with it or playing keep away. Henry was the perfect addition to our farm and he really does a great job in keeping Mikey company.
