Hope you like it as much as we do.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Lagerhead - Submitted by Paul Mason

I met Lager tied to a stump on Jost Van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands.
I felt bad about his situation so I found out who owned him and bought him.
I built him a cart, trained him to drive, and put him to work doing cultural
events and giving the school kids rides. Been a big donkey advocate ever since.

While Lagerhead is not a New England Donk, he is trained by a
New Englander, so I think he qualifies for your contest.

He is also the best looking long ear in the Caribbean.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Pepper - Submitted by Bonnie Fewtrell of Esperance NY

Here's 2 photos of my wonderful Pepper. She came into my life on Jan 15, 2002
when she was about 3 1/2 years old. I didn't know anything about equines not even
how to put a halter on. She's been very patient with me over the years :o)

We go for rides, sometimes she pulls me in a cart, we've been in lots of local
parades and spend 9 days at the fair every summer.

Did I mention she is wonderful?!?

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Giselle - Submitted by Kim Cassidy

Here are a few pictures of my 1.5 year old BLM Donkey Giselle.
I got her in April, she came off the Yuma Desert Range, she
was capture a little before her first year in October 2010.
I got her along with a BLM mare in April of 2011. She is wonderful,
I had no idea that donkeys were so full of personality. I
pony her with Wyatt and she is so funny out on trail.

Thanks for asking about her and I look forward to having her
in my life for a looooooooonnnng time. BTW, Wyatt is my
other BLM Mustang and Giselle and he are fast friends.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Tillie - Submiitted by Cresca Albright, Hancock, NH

This is 24 year old Tillie. She has been in our family since she was a
yearling. She is a dear girl who is adored by all around here. I named
this photo "Tillie in the Sky with Diamonds".

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Dominic - Submiitted by Cresca Albright, Hancock, NH

Dominic is a rescue that we got from the New Holland, PA auction. We
estimate he is about 18 years old. He has been with us for six years. Our
vet thought he was around twelve years when he came here. He had come from
a very hard place but in six years he has grown and blossomed in his new
home. He's quite a boy and he is loved. He's a funny man - when he drinks
his water he sticks his tongue out and it stays out for a while!

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Jenny - Submiitted by Hannah

Jenny is an 11 year old standard gray donkey. She is a rescue. I don't know a lot
about her past other than she had a baby four years ago.I have had her for two and a
half years now. She is the best thing to have ever come into my life! I was 15 when
I got her. It has been a good two and a half years. She is very well mannered. I can
do almost everything with her. I often walk and ride her around the neighborhood. We
both love each other very much. We have had our bad days, but we both over come
them. When I come out in the morning and evening she is always at the pasture gate,
braying. She gets mad if I come out a little late. She is also the next Houdini! She
has recently figured out how to get out of the pasture and her stall. She is one
smart donkey! Lucky for me she is also Americas next top model. She knows how to
work the camera! Attached is one of the first, and best pictures I have taken of her.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Josie - Submitted by Sarah Jo & Chris

This is Josie , our 13 year old donkey—maybe not her
best angle but can’t you just feel that warm breath?
She hangs out with her buddy Monique (an SYA adoptee)
on a hillside in Thetford VT.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Dinah - Submitted by Linda

Here is Dinah, our 1 1 /4 year old pony mule adopted from Gerda's
Animal Aid in Townsend, VT. Apparently she was weaned and sent to
auction, where Gerda rescued her from the kill pen. She has gone from
a withdrawn little thing to a funny, curious, brave comedian that is
learning to be a good citizen while making us laugh along the way.
She is running circles around our Fjord mare who has never taken
anything from any horse!

My husband, Al & I, proudly adopted Jeannie and Janie from Save
Your Ass Long Ear Rescue on April 8th, 2011. They have
been wonderful companions to our Percheron horse, Blue as well
as our two potbellied pigs, Harold & Hannah. They are AMAZING
girls and bring us such joy each and every day.
We are blessed to have them.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Asstro-nomical - Submitted by Lee Blake of Evansville, WY

Asstro. My Asstro-nomical mammoth is now 6 yrs old and 57" tall.
I unexpectedly found him in Iowa where he had been the only animal in
a tiny pasture for 2˝ years. With no training at all, he was my perfect
saddle donk prospect. When I brought him to WY he was immediately
accepted into my herd of 4 mules. At 34 years young, herd boss Jake
has been his mentor and closest friend ever since. Asstro was elated to
have others to pal with in a huge pasture! He was also a sponge for human
interaction and learned quickly. He began being ridden in August 2010
and has been a wonderful mount who enthusiastically explores and enjoys outings.
Asstro hauls like a dream and has been ridden in OR, CA, NV, SD and also
back to Lineville, Iowa in June 2011 where he was ridden in the annual
Bordertown Day parade. The young unwanted donkey who was headed
to auction is worth a million bucks to me and proves that the wooly mammoth
is not extinct- he lives happily in Wyoming where he is adored!

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Julio, Lavender and Violetta - Submitted by Sue Kenney

Julio - who passed last year - a burro who is written about on the SYA memorial Lavender - my heart donkey - who came to us over four years ago from having had to endure a number of auctions. My husband Rick and I had gone to visit SYA and there was Lavender - she and I formed an immediate bond . I can stand with her and feel totally at peace with the world. I remember one particular time when I was feeling sad and she walked down the hill to where I was sitting on a large rock. She stood over me and ever so gently touched her muzzle to my face as I reached up to hug her. She became fast friends with Julio and they were inseparable and then she took on the task of raising little Violetta - her patience with that young donkey is astounding. Violetta - she is the happy little spirit - having been saved at an early age from a dealer by Barbara Dalpe with another little donkey Amelia (both only months old). She is gentle and loves affection and meeting people. Violetta thinks the world was created for her and she can run like the wind . Violetta likes to stand on warm sunny days and watch the birds and she is curious about everything, which leads her to push items and watch them go rolling down the hills or to walk into the plastic kiddie pools and to poke her head in downed trees and logs. She loves to stand on warm sunny days and poke her head out of the barn and watch the birds and all the other goings on that nature has to offer. She adores Lavender and follows her everywhere.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Sam - Submitted by Mary Ann and Dennis Norman in Ct.

We got Sam and Jake in 2005, before SYA was started.
They were our very first donkeys - we knew nothing about
donkeys or any other equines for that matter.
Sam is blind in his right eye and in his teens. He's a good boy.

Jake is a handsome boy, also in his teens.

2 months old with his mom, Camilla.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Kitty - Submitted by Mary Ann and Dennis Norman in Ct.

We adopted her in Dec.2008 with her daughter Windy.
They are companions for Camilla and Patrick Quincy.
Kitty is always alert to what's going on around the yard.
I can tell if she hears something out of the ordinary by how
she looks and where she's looking.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Windy - Submitted by Mary Ann and Dennis Norman in Ct.

This is Windy, Kitty's daughter. She came to us at 5
months old in 2008. A playmate for Patrick, she's a
little wild and whacky - a joy to have in our herd.

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Jo-Jo and Foggy - submitted by Jennifer of Hopkinton, MA

Save Your Ass Longear Rescue Jenny Grace - submitted by Pam Dunne of Vermont

Jenny came into my life as a rescue in April, 2010. She's had
good times in her life and bad times. I met her in a really bad time
and am so happy that she became a part of my life. She is about
20 and has been a working Donkey in New Mexico, a pleasure mount
here in Vermont, and is now a gentle companion to three Miniature
Donkeys also here in Vermont.

One of her favorite things is a good snooze in the sun, flat out and in
the dirt! Good thing she also loves to be groomed!

She is wonderful and very special and I wish I had met her sooner.
Did I say she is wonderful? And beautiful and one of my best
girlfriends? Well, she is all those things and more...I love you Jenny Grace.
